Tarot Cards: A Mirror for the Soul
A Gentle Guide to the Power, Purpose, and Personal Practice of Tarot
by Hellbloom Haven
✨ A Tool for Inner Truth, Not Fortune-Telling
“Tarot doesn’t tell you what will happen.
It tells you what wants to be seen, known, and felt, right now.”
— Hellbloom Haven

Tarot cards are not about predicting your future or handing your power to someone else.
They’re about reflection.
Energy awareness.
Symbolic truth.
Each card acts like a mirror, showing you patterns, archetypes, and emotional currents that might otherwise stay hidden. When you sit with them, not as a seeker of answers but as a listener to energy, you begin to see yourself more clearly.
At Hellbloom Haven, tarot is used not for fate, but for freedom.
📜 A Brief History of Tarot Cards
Tarot cards began in the 1400s in Europe, not as a mystical tool, but as a card game. It wasn’t until the 18th and 19th centuries that mystics and philosophers began seeing deeper meanings in the cards’ imagery.
Over time, tarot evolved into a symbolic system filled with:
- Universal archetypes (The Fool, The Empress, Death, The Sun)
- Nature-based cycles (elements, seasons, stages of growth)
- Emotional and spiritual maps (like The Tower or The Star)
Today, they are one of the most beloved tools for self-inquiry, personal transformation, and intuitive connection.
🧠 How Tarot Cards Actually Work
There’s no magic spell in the cards.
But there is magic in the space they open.
🌀 Psychological:
Tarot cards trigger recognition in your subconscious mind. Their symbols help you make sense of what you already feel but may not have named yet.
🔮 Intuitive:
When used with presence, the cards become a language of energy, revealing what’s resonant, blocked, or emerging in your inner world.
✨ Spiritual:
Each card is a living archetype, a mirror of something your soul is ready to explore, integrate, or embody.
You don’t have to “believe in tarot.”
You just have to listen.
🗂️ The Structure of a Tarot Deck
A typical deck has 78 cards, divided into two main parts:
🔹 The Major Arcana (22 cards)
- These are the big soul themes—birth, change, challenge, awakening
- Think: The Fool, The High Priestess, The Lovers, Death, The World
🔹 The Minor Arcana (56 cards)
- These are the everyday energies, your relationships, thoughts, actions, and emotions
- Divided into 4 suits:
- Cups (feelings, intuition, relationships)
- Wands (creativity, passion, purpose)
- Swords (thoughts, truth, decisions)
- Pentacles (body, resources, grounding)
Each card is a conversation. A moment. A mirror.
🌿 How I Use Tarot Cards (and How You Can Too)
Here at Hellbloom Haven, I don’t use tarot to predict the future.
I use it to check in, with energy, emotions, and intuition.
It helps me:
- Understand the energy of a moment
- Hold space for shadow work or healing
- Reflect on the path I’m walking (or avoiding)
- Reconnect with my own inner guidance
Ways You Can Use Tarot for Healing:
- One-card daily pull for clarity
- Journaling with a card (“What part of me is speaking here?”)
- Emotional inquiry (“What am I not seeing?” or “What wants to be felt?”)
- Integration work with Major Arcana cards (e.g. embodying The Strength card during a hard week)
It’s not about “reading” the cards right.
It’s about reading yourself more deeply.
✍️ Try This: A Gentle Tarot Practice
You don’t need to know all the meanings to begin.
Try this:
- Hold your deck and set a calm intention: “Let what I most need to see reveal itself with love.”
- Pull one card
Let it choose you. Trust the first pull. - Look at the image
- What stands out?
- How does it feel in your body?
- What story is being told?
- Journal or sit with it
Write one sentence that reflects what it’s showing you right now.
No pressure. No performance.
Just presence and honesty.
🧘♀️ Clarifying the Myths
Let’s clear the air:
🚫 Tarot is not evil, scary, or dark.
🚫 It doesn’t tell you what’s “going to happen.”
🚫 It doesn’t require psychic powers.
Tarot is simply a tool.
What you bring to it shapes what you receive from it.
Used with love, it becomes a compass.
Used with fear, it becomes confusion.
You don’t have to “believe” in tarot.
You only need to believe in your own willingness to listen.
🖤 Final Whisper
“Each tarot card is a mirror,
Reflecting back your truth in image, color, and archetype.
When you read the cards,
You’re really learning to read yourself.”
